From the
Principal:
Dear Parents and
Students,
Here we are in the final weeks of the school year.
What an exciting year it has been. We are extremely
proud of our student body as they performed beyond
expectations (see this and previous Newsletters) in
the classroom, on the Athletic Fields, and in the
many extra-curricular and service activities offered
here at NC - from our Hearts to Hands Club, Lego
League Team, Destination Imagination Team, Band and
Chorus groups, Art Festival participants, Math
League and Math Counts Teams, and our Wildcat
Theatre group who, by the way, has work extremely
hard over the last few months to put on our Annual
School Play - this year's production was "School
House Rock Live!"
As we conclude the school year, I once again urge
parents to help your students maintain their
priorities down the stretch. To adapt a popular
adage: School is not over until its over! We want
all our students to end the year on a sound and
positive academic note. Tell your student to keep
up his/her solid effort in maintaining grades,
exhibiting the kind of behavior expected of Catholic
School students, and exercising that important "R"
word at all times - i.e., Responsibility.
Parents of current 7th graders will be receiving a
paper copy (distributed in Homeroom on 5/6) of a
letter and donation form for our annual Fall Event.
The letter contains important information about our
Fall Fundraiser and a donation form for items to be
raffled off in October. We are looking for donated
items to be listed on the Calendar. In a nutshell,
we will be selling Calendar Raffles during September
and everyday in October an item will be raffled
off. In addition, we will be sponsoring a special
three school event ( with St. Christopher's and
Infant Jesus) on October 16 that promises to be a
fun filled evening. An electronic copy of the
letter and donation form is also contained in this
newsletter- please take notice.
Please be advised that Bishop McCormack will not be
able to celebrate Mass with us on May 13 as
originally planned. The Bishop has recently
undergone extensive back surgery and will be
recuperating for some time. Father Jason Jalbert
will be at NC on the 13th and will celebrate Mass in
the Bishop's place. Mass will commence at the usual
9AM starting time.
Please refer to the Calendar below for a listing of
other importance events taking place over the next
several weeks.
Peace,
Thomas
Kelleher, Principal

Important Notice
to Nashua NC Parents:
Please note the following letter we received from
the Nashua School District Transportation Director:
|
Student Spotlight:
Congratulations to the members of
Mrs. Parolin's Honors Algebra 8
class for the distinction of coming
in First Place in their division in
the Catholic Math League exam for
the 2009 2010 school year. Also, can
you spot the first place winner in
the nation who is included in this
picture? We will all know who it is
after our June Awards Assembly!
Kudos to one and all!

Academic News:
News from the
Math Department!
Placement Information
A word about placement - as a department, we are
currently busily assessing our 7th graders regarding
their placement for next year. (It becomes an easier
process once we have had them in classes and have
had a chance to evaluate their performance in math
for an extended period of time.) We make decisions
about their individual placement by looking at
placement test results, effort and report card
progress throughout the year and course
prerequisites as listed in our course descriptions
online. Final placement for our 7th grade will be
available to parents and students in time to
purchase next year's books. Refer to our website for
course descriptions and prerequisites if you have
any questions regarding this information. Please
contact Mrs. Parolin via email at
jparolin@ncrjhs.org with any questions.
Catholic Math League Final Results
Congratulations to our Honors Algebra 1 class who
again achieved the amazing distinction of coming in
first place in the nation in their division for the
Catholic Math League for 2009/2010. This was a group
effort and is indeed an honor for the class and
individual students as well. The scores for the
school for each test are combined using the top
three individual scores in the class. In addition to
this honor, "someone" has earned the top spot in the
nation - more information will follow during the 8th
Grade Awards Assembly in June. Excellent work Honors
Algebra Class!
The Prealgebra and Math 7 test results were also
very good for Nashua Catholic. We scored in the top
16 schools nationally in both contests. Award
certificates will be distributed to the top three
students in each category during the Awards Assembly
in June. To all of Nashua Catholic's mathematicians
- be proud of all you have achieved!
News from the
Social Studies Department!
The 7th graders will
be experiencing the immigration process, on Wed,
June 2nd. They will come to school, in costume for
the day, and go through the Ellis Island simulation.
Each child will know their character and information
on that person, and be able to at least say "hello"
and "good-bye" in their "native" language. More info
to follow in the classrooms.
The 8th graders are finishing up the year learning
about the Kennedy Assassination, Watergate, and the
current ex-presidents. There will be a final on
Tuesday, June 1st.
News from the
World Language Department!
The week prior to
April break, the World Languages Department
celebrated "World Languages Week". Students in
French and Spanish created PowerPoint presentations
on French and Spanish-speaking countries which they
are presenting in class this week. Students were
able to interview native speakers who visited the
classes. "Merci" to Mrs. Lang (French native
speaker), and "Gracias" to Mrs. Hennessy, Mr.
Barillas, and Mrs. Lansing (Spanish native
speakers). The French students learned about the
French rap artist MC Solaar and created pointillist
masterpieces in the style of Georges Seurault. The
Spanish students listened to music by the Dominican
artist Chi Chi Peralta and created "flat piñatas".
At lunch on Friday, students sold typical French and
Hispanic desserts which they had prepared. The
proceeds (approximately $180) will go to Chilean and
Haitian relief organizations. Finally, the entire
school participated in a "scavenger hunt" matching
teachers to their favorite words in various
languages. All those students who successfully
completed the scavenger hunts earned an out of
uniform day. It was an enjoyable week for all.
Grand Concours Francais
In March, all French students participated in a
national French contest sponsored by the American
Association of Teachers of French. Twelve students
from Nashua Catholic scored in the top ten highest
scores for the region. Congratulations to Jane
Edwards, Sarah Swallow, Emily Murphy, Renee
Beaulieu, Alison Hebert, Rex Li, Katherine Swallow,
Katherine Lambert, Claire Spencer, Jennifer
Abou-Raad, Emily Lennon, and Molly McCabe.

year when we need to be thinking about graduation,
and thus being said, Mrs. Campbell wants to ensure
that the correct spelling of how you as parents,
would like your child's name to appear on the
graduation certificate (i.e. John E. Doe, or John
Doe). Please email her with this information at
scampbell@ncrjhs.org
no later
than May 21, 2010.

8th Grade Field
Trip:
The 8th Grade will be
going on a field trip to Camp Lincoln in Kingston,
NH on June 2, 2010. The students will experience a
full day of Outdoor Education guided by the camp's
counselors and chaperoned by our faculty.
Activities will include archery, high ropes,
boating, a challenge course and climbing wall.
These activities help promote and develop
self-confidence, group dynamics, communication
skills, critical thinking and help to establish the
importance of setting goals. There is a minimal

asked to complete the permission and release forms
and return to the school no later than May 21, 2010.

Dear Parents of
2010 Graduates:
This year, graduation
will be on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Immaculate
Conception Church, Nashua, NH. Please have your
student arrive at the Church Hall no later than 5:30
P.M. Mass will begin at 6 PM.
Respectful dress is required underneath the
graduation gown. The attire requirements for
graduation reflect the Catholic virtue of modesty.
Modesty is the virtue by which we express respect
for others and ourselves by the way we dress, speak,
and act. Please be mindful that we will have
Celebration of the Liturgy.
Graduation gowns will be distributed on Tuesday,
June 1, during homeroom study. Please hang this
gown up as soon as it gets home. These gowns should
not be ironed, and need a few days of hanging to be
wrinkle free.
The graduation practice will be Tuesday, June 8,
2009 from 10 A.M. until 11:30 AM. at Immaculate
Conception Church. You must arrange for
transportation for your student to and from the
church for graduation practice. Please be prompt; I
have classes to teach at school and I cannot be
late.
Peace and Blessings,
Mrs. Glenda L. McFadden, SFO
