Dear Parents and Students,
Cited below is a letter from Mary Moran, Superintendent of
Schools for the Diocese of Manchester. The Superintendent
addresses the significance of the upcoming Terra Nova Tests your
child will be taking next week.
We are also issuing a last call for Ads for the Yearbook. If you
have any questions, please call Mrs. Stacie Kiczuk, Yearbook
Staff Coordinator, at 672- 4245.
Letter from the Superintendent:
March 23, 2009
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Next week, March 30-April 3, all students in grades two through
eight in our diocesan Catholic elementary schools will
participate in CTB Terra Nova Standardized Testing. The Terra
Nova tests measure not only your child's performance (what they
know), but also provide information on your child's anticipated
success (what the typical learner at this same age and level is
anticipated to score). Terra Nova standardized tests are
nationally norm- referenced. What that means is that the tests
were developed on a national level to assess achievement based
on current national standards in the core subject areas of math,
reading, language, science and social studies. The scores
against which your child's scores are measured are compared to
the performances of thousands of students in all learning
environments nationally: public, private, and religiously
affiliated schools in rural, urban, and suburban settings.
Standardized testing is only one of the means to assess your
child's academic accomplishments. Daily, through class
performance, homework, tests and quizzes, projects, and
classroom participation, your child's teacher assesses progress.
As I review the achievements and successes of students in
Catholic elementary schools in the diocese, the results of
standardized tests provide meaningful objective data as one
measure of successful teaching and learning while daily
performance and anecdotal assessments provide balance to the
student's total assessment. The assessment process, in its many
forms, provides data for identifying students' learning needs,
informs curriculum changes to meet the needs, and supports
ongoing professional development for instructional growth of our
teachers.
Please treat this week as a typical week for your children. If
at all possible, avoid scheduling appointments or other
activities that would keep your child out of school during this
week. Keeping regular bedtimes, schedules, and normal eating
habits reinforce the understanding that the tests are really
about the children demonstrating what they already know.
Encourage them to try their best. While there may be a question
they cannot answer for any number of reasons, they should not be
discouraged, but rather just work through the rest of the test.
I believe your children are well prepared. It's important that
they hear from you and their teachers that we're just asking
them to work hard and feel positive about all they have learned.
I wish your children well next week. Once the results are
received, I hope to give you a broad overview of our students'
academic successes. Thank you for supporting your children's
efforts and partnering with us to provide the best we can for
them.
Sincerely,
Mary E. Moran

March Newsletter 2009
Dear Parents and Students,
We hope that everyone had a restful and
enjoyable winter break. With Spring right around
the corner March is a very busy month. Students
must not lose sight of the fact that there is
still much academic work to be done. However,
March is also a time to look forward to a number
of important and signature activities that will
occur over the next few weeks. Our signature
event is, of course, our Annual Fashion Show.
This event is our major fundraiser for the year
and we hope you, your family, other relatives
and friends come and join us on March 20 for a
night of fun, frolic and entertainment all on
behalf of support for our Catholic School.
Parents are asked to once again take notice that
March 15 is the absolute deadline for submitting
applications for the Helen J. Horan Scholarship.
Please be aware that any applications received
after the deadline will not be considered.
At the end of the month our 7th and 8th graders
will be taking the Terra Nova Standardized Test.
This is a national norm referenced test that
will be administered over a 5 day period. It is
important that you prepare your child adequately
for that week long battery of tests by making
sure they are properly nourished and get plenty
of rest during the testing period.
Also, on March 11, as announced in previous
newsletters, a representative from FACTS will be
at NC at 7PM for an information night for those
parents who are not familiar with FACTS' tuition
management program and want their concerns, or
other issues addressed.
Working in cooperation with Franklin Pierce
University, Nashua Catholic will welcome another
student teacher on March 9 - Mr. Todd Therrien-
who will be working in the History Department
under the supervision of Mrs. Sharyn Sevigny.
Note from the Business Office:
FYI for parents who are paying their tuition on
a monthly basis: Please remember when making
your final payment on April 1 to deduct the
deposit of $200/student .....
Nashua Catholic DI Team to compete in NH
Regionals!
The Nashua Catholic Destination Imagination Team
will be representing Nashua Catholic Regional
Junior High School on Saturday, March 14, 2009
at Nashua South H.S., to compete in the 2009 NH
Destination Imagination Regional Competition.
Our team members have been working hard and
preparing for their upcoming challenge. The team
has been meeting on a weekly basis since the
beginning of December, 2008. This year, our team
challenge includes writing a play, acting,
research and development, props and costume
designs, study of science and technology,
building, improvisation, planning and time
management. Through team building activities,
the team learns about responsibility,
leadership, conflict resolutions and team work.
The team's challenge this year is called Private
DI and the presentation time is at 11:30 AM in
room B-2005 at Nashua South.
News from the Theology Dept:
Mark your calendars! On Holy Thursday afternoon
(April 9), Mr. Cloutier will be performing his
original one-man play entitled "Brother Francis"
here in our gym at 1 P.M. The life of St.
Francis of Assisi is told by his close friend,
Bro. Leo, from his wild youth and conversion in
the crumbling chapel of San Damiano to his
meeting with the wolf of Gubbio, his trip to
Egypt to convert the Sultan and his reception of
the stigmata (the wounds of the crucified
Jesus). Enter into the Easter Triduum by hearing
the story of the man who followed Jesus so
closely he has been called "a second Christ".
Parents, Grandparents, relatives and friends are
welcomed to attend!!!

Athletic News:
Sign ups for our spring team sports, namely
Baseball, Softball, Boys and Girls Track and
Club Boys Lacrosse will begin on Monday, March
9th during lunch. Baseball/Softball tryouts
begin on Monday, March 23. Spring Track will
begin on Monday, March 30th. Intramural/club
boys lacrosse have not set any dates as of this
printing. Mr Swanson would like to organize a
group to play after school and possibly pick up
some 'friendly' games with either other club
teams or perhaps a school team. More info to
come.
Wrapping up the winter season, our girls'
varsity basketball team is the 2009 Catholic
Schools Basketball Champion. (yes girls, new tee
shirts will be printed, be patient) The boys
finished second to St. Joseph of Manchester.
In the Tri county Tourney, the varsity girls
lost a first round game to West Running Brook.
The girls' JV team lost a tough first round game
to Hampstead. The boys' JV team lost a nail
bitter to Mt View MS of Goffstown.
Congratulations to all our students and coaches
for a great season! Oh and by the way, our
feeder school, St. Christopher, won the 5/6
grade girls division of the Catholic Schools
Tournament. Can you say Dynasty!
Thank you to all those players and parents who
participated in our first 'Battle at the Barn',
students vs parents basketball game. We had a
great and supportive crowd. We had the 5 & 6
grade teams from Infant Jesus and St.
Christopher square off first and then the girls
and boys went at it against their parents. This
is sure to become a very special annual event,
maybe even with a few wrinkles added.
Wrestling team, wow!!! We really don't have
enough space here to do the boys and the coaches
justice. They had a phenomenal season! First of
all we teamed up with the other three middle
schools in Nashua and competed and won the
inaugural MVC Wrestling League. Then the NC team
took a second in Division II of the Tri County
League. Then off to the NH Youth Wrestling
Tourney, here another second against the power
clubs in the state. To cap off a great season
the team won the Nashua City - Thibault Tourney.
Again congratulations to the boys and the
coaches. It was a long but very rewarding
season!
Parents, let get those nice clean uniforms back
to Mr B. We know how they just clutter up your
son's and daughter's bedroom. Send them back to
us, we have plenty of room!!!
Development News:
Don't forget, March 20th, 7th Annual Fashion
Show and Silent Auction. We still have a limited

special night planned for us. This years theme
of Springtime in Paris will certainly test Mrs
Rucci brain. Congratulations to Jordan Vetter,
whose design was chosen for this years cover to
the program book!
Mrs Parolin is collecting items for the Silent
Auction portion of the show. Please contact her

Mar 09, 2009
Dear Parents,
Sorry for the flurry of emails lately but the next few
months are really busy for us. We really need your help
on this one!!
Attention hair stylists & makeup artists! Both
professional and amateur! Parents of cheerleaders,
dancers and actors!
The Fashion Show desperately needs your help. The
economy is hitting Salons in the Nashua area hard and we
have had 17 salons turn us down in our request for help
for our show. The girls really look forward to having
their hair and makeup done for the evening and it is
disappointing that we're having no luck in our
solicitation. If you can help either by connecting us
with a salon or setting up a station yourself backstage,
please let us know as soon as possible.
We would need you back stage by 4:30 to set up. Let us
know if you will be doing hair or makeup and whether you
have your own supplies or if the girls should bring
their own.
