Helen J. Horan Scholarship Application Instructions

Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School

      This scholarship has been made possible as a result of a bequest to Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School by Father Denis Horan in loving memory of his sister Helen. Father “Deny” was Nashua Catholic’s Chaplain from 1997 to 2006 and a staunch supporter of Catholic education. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving graduating eighth grade student who has successfully completed two years at Nashua Catholic and is continuing on to a Catholic high school. The scholarship will be awarded in four annual installments during the student’s Catholic high school years. The total amount of the four year award will be determined at the time of graduation from NC

Application procedure: 

  1. All applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for this award:                             

(a)  Maintain solid academic performance and consistent effort while at Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High in School in grades 7 & 8.

(b)  Demonstrate positive involvement in the school community

(c)  Obtain a letter of recommendation from the spiritual leader of the

       student’s faith community (i.e. Pastor, Rabbi, Minister etc) or when not

       available, from the Theology Department Chair at NCRJHS.

(d)  Complete an essay, of no more than 500 words, addressing the following topic:

                   A Catholic education is a gift for a lifetime. How will the education you have received at Nashua Catholic and the education you will receive at a Catholic high school be a gift for your lifetime? How has your education at Nashua Catholic been a gift thus far?

 

  1. All requirements must be received in hand by the Principal of NCRJHS or post-marked no later than March 15.  Be sure to include this page complete with dates and signatures indicated below.

 

  1. Verification of admission to a Catholic High School must be provided along with a statement of tuition prior to disbursement of the award.

 

  1. The decision of the scholarship award committee will be based upon all information received by the March 15 deadline and will be final. There can be no exceptions.

 

  1. The recipient will be announced immediately following Nashua Catholic’s monthly Liturgy in May.

 

6.   By signing this document, authorization is granted to the Scholarship Committee to access the applicant’s school records.
