Nashua Catholic Regional Jr. H.S.
Newsletter April 2010

|
|
| |
|
|
From the Principal:
Dear Parents and Students,
April is here. We all hope you had a very
holy and blessed Easter with family and
friends. Spring is officially here! We
begin the last quarter of the school year.
Now is the time to tell your child to buckle
down and finish the year strong. As the
warm weather begins to move our thoughts to
the Red Sox, blossoming flowers, bright
sunny days and alluring beaches, academics
sometime become less a priority than they
should be. Please remind your student to
stay the course and put forth their best
effort the the remaining days of the school
year. There is still much work and much
learning to be done.
By the time you receive this newsletter,
your children will be in the middle of Terra
Nova testing. Please make sure your child
eats well and gets plenty of rest during
this testing period. We want our students
to do well and come into the testing with
healthy minds and bodies as their mental
acuity will surely be put to the test (no
pun intended!).
Around this time of year, I usually try to
alert parents to any academic issues or
concerns your child may be facing. It is
very important for you to know that if a
child fails - i.e. for the year - two full
time academic subjects, they will not be
allowed to participate in the graduation
ceremony and will have to make up their
failing grade(s) in summer school before
receiving a Nashua Catholic diploma. If you
child is a 7th grader, two failing grades in
any full year core subject may prevent your
child from moving to the 8th grade. So,
please monitor your child's academic
performance, maintain close contact with
his/her teachers and let us know if there is
anything we can do to insure the success of
your child while attending our school.
Peace,
Thomas
Kelleher, Principal |

Academic News:
From the Science Department:
Students are reminded that the Rube Goldberg
Projects for 8th Graders are set to begin on
April 16!
From the Mathematics Department:
Catholic Math League
Nashua Catholic completed our fourth and
final test in the Catholic Math League
contest with terrific results.
Congratulations to all classroom winners and
to the following students who placed in the
top three school wide for each test. Our
first place winners were Rishi Yemme,
Parthiv Patel and Sean Feenan. In second
place were Ben Thibault, Kevin Tran, Anji
Radakrishnan, Rex Li, Saswat Bhattacharya
and John Deschenes. Third place winners were
Shivani Shrestha, Sarah Swallow, Kurt
Rockstrom, Mitchell Nash, Chris McGuinness,
Emily Lennon and Joseph Moleksi.
We are so proud of all our students who
participated and we await the final results
for Nashua Catholic from the company.
Mathcounts
Nashua Catholic's Mathcounts team
participated in the state level meet at
Plymouth State University in March.
Congratulations to the team members Joanna
Song, Shivani Shrestha, Rishi Yemme and Anji
Radakrishnan for representing Nashua
Catholic so well. This was such an honor for
Nashua Catholic as competition is very
rigorous in our region and our team did an
awesome job to get to the state meet. Thanks
again to the parents and coaches who
supported our students along the way.
Special thanks to Mr.Yemme who will continue
to coach next year's team. He will be
looking for some assistance in the fall as
both other coaches, Mr. Hebert and Mr.
Radakrishnan, will be "graduating" along
with their children in June.
Math Placement for next year
Our course descriptions contain information
regarding the requirements for each of our
8th grade math class levels. There are
prerequisite grades in your students'
current 7th grade class that form the basis
of our placement each year. We also give
placement tests to both incoming 7th and 8th
graders and look for current 7th grade math
teacher recommendations. This process will
begin in May. More information will follow.
From the English Department:
First and foremost, we are very excited that
Nashua Catholic's spelling bee winner, Anji
Radakrishnan, won the state spelling bee and
will be going to Washington, D.C., in May,
to compete at the national level! We will
be attending to this competition with great
interest and wish her well.
Secondly, we are stunned at how quickly this
academic year has passed. Our literature
classes are finishing units on drama and
poetry. Some classes have been reading more
modern plays and poetry, and some have been
dabbling in Shakespeare. As you read our
news, We are beginning the fourth quarter,
and the literature classes at the 7th and
8th grade levels will be focusing their
attention on the novel. The 7th and 8th
grade English classes will be wrapping up
their study of grammar, usage, and
mechanics, and will be preparing for a final
exam on this material. They will also be
wrapping up their study of vocabulary and
taking a final in this area as well.
Hopefully, there will be time to allow a
little creative writing in, to bring the
year to a close. Thank you for allowing us
the pleasure of working with your children
this year. We have truly enjoyed our time
with them!

Silent Auction a Success:
Through your incredible generosity this
year's auction during the New York City
Fashion Capital fashion show was extremely
successful. Given the state of our economy,
this really reflects our community's
commitment to this school and your
willingness to support our endeavors. Thanks
to everyone who contributed cash, baskets,
certificates, tickets or who bid and
attended this great evening - we could never
have done this without your help. We are
truly blessed to all be sharing time
together in support of this community and
these terrific young men and women. Items
such a the beautiful hand-crafted "Cat &
Mouse themed" afghan made by Mrs.
Boissonneault, shown below with son Bob
Boissonneault, were one of many items
donated to and bid on at our silent auction.

Many "Thank Yous" to all who helped.
