Dear Parents and Students,
The start of another school year is nearly upon us. I hope all
of you have had a restful and enjoyable summer. We have
successfully addressed some staffing needs by hiring a new
history/ theology teacher, a new music teacher and a school wide
secretary who will replace the retiring Mrs. Sue Coker. So, with
our staffing in place, we are looking forward to having another
exciting and productive year. We plan to make a number of
changes this year and hope that the Nashua Catholic experience
will be an enjoyable and productive one for parents and students
alike.
A few minor scheduling changes - to keep pace with National
trends - will result in students taking physical education twice
a week instead of once. Other than that, the schedule will
remain pretty much the same as last year. Student schedules and
other pertinent materials will be mailed out by the middle of
August; students will receive a fresh printout of their
schedules in their opening day packets on August 28 so they do
not have to bring their "mailed" schedule with them. Student bus
tickets will be mailed directly home by the Nashua School
Transportation company. If you have questions, you can contact
the Nashua School Transportion Co. at (603) 594-4307.
Students will be assigned brand new lockers this year (see
Development News below). This should dispel any anxieties about
leaving valuables in student lockers- please be reminded that
this year all cell phones must remain in student lockers. No
exceptions!
The first day of school for 7th and 8th graders will be August
28. Please note this will be a full day of school. All students
are expected to come to school in their NC school uniforms.
There will be no Physical Education or Music Classes the first
week of school. Also, students will have the opportunity to
purchase milk and choose from an a la carte menu. This procedure
may continue for a short while until our caterer (Celebrations)
has received menu orders in a timely fashion.
Please be advised that any parent who wishes to volunteer at
Nashua Catholic for any activity whatsoever must complete the
"Protecting God's Children" workshop. These brief workshops are
offered continuously throughout the Diocese of Manchester.
Workshop locations and times can be found on the Diocesan
website at www.catholicchurchnh.org. Go to the "child safety"
link and click on "Protecting God's Children Workshops".
On the subject of volunteers, NC is seeking parent volunteers to
work in our Café and assist with our school lunches - if
interested, please call the school at 882-7011.
Also, in the realm of extra- curricular activities, our Wildcat
Theatre Club is currently seeking direction for our annual
Musical Production. Last year a group of parents stepped forward
and ran a very successful "Godspell Jr." Musical. We invite any
parent who has expertise in the musical production area or who
may know of anyone who has expertise in this area to become
involved in helping to make this annual student-centered event a
continued and worthwhile success.
Additionally,to aid in your future planning, be advised that
Wednesday evening, September 12, from 6-8:30 PM, has been set
aside for our annual Parent's Back to School Night! You will
have an opportunity to experience the joys of following your
child's school schedule. We promise no tests or quizzes!! Also,
don't forget the Nashua Country Fair and Cow Maneuver which is
scheduled for September 29 (See Development News below). "Cow
Deeds" will be available in the main office and/or will be given
out to students the first day of school. Please support this
worthy endeavor

Dear Parents and Students,
Here is some additional information for you regarding
the opening of the new school year:
Textbook Purchasing:
Here are a few helpful hints and/or points of
information when using The Nashua Catholic site on
www.varsitybooks.com :
1) ISBN's can be found on the Varsity site by clicking
on the picture of the book.
2) Varsity lists the Holy Bible New Revised Standard
Version ISBN 1585160393. The NC website
originally called for the NSRV Catholic Youth Bible ISBN
0884894894. Either is acceptable.
3) On the Varsity site there are yellow highlighted
notes at the top of many pages, particularly, math and
Latin. These note textbook options. Honors Math 402 is
the only math course requiring two textbooks, although,
many math courses require a separate workbook. Latin
requires one textbook.
Health Highlights:
If your student is to receive acetaminophen or
ibuprofen, the pink parent permission form needs to be
on file in the school office. Also, please note the
importance of having the permission form on file for epi-pens
and inhalers.
The Community Nurse from the City of Nashua has sent out
immunization reminders to many of our 7th grade parents
concerning the need for an up-to- date MMR shot. If you
received this reminder, please send in the needed
information at your earliest convenience.
First Day of School
Forms:
There will be a large envelope containing many forms
given to your student on August 28th. It is ever so
helpful to have these items returned as quickly as
possible. Please note that the items in your child's
folder will include 10 "cow deeds" for our upcoming
Nashua Country Fair and Cow Maneuver. Please give your
participation in this all important fundraiser your
utmost consideration.
Traffic Patterns:
It is for the safety of all of our students that we ask
that those dropping off and picking up students follow
these quidelines:
Morning: All students coming by car should be dropped
off in the parking lot - Columbia Avenue entrance -
close to the cafeteria. All students, unless
specifically stated or late should use this entrance in
the morning.
Afternoon: Cars should use Columbia Avenue to Wellington
Avenue (TWO streets up from the school) and come down
Wellington to Bartlett Avenue in time for a 2:30
dismissal. Students will exit the school through the
foyer and meet their rides on the school block and
school side of the street ONLY.
Webster Avenue in the Afternoon: Parking on Webster
Avenue is limited and should only be used for sports
carpools and urgent needs that require the parent to
come in to the school in the last moments of the day to
excuse the student. |
